Peradeniya Botanic Gardens..

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Peradeniya is considered to be the main botanical garden in Sri Lanka. Its land acres is about 147 acres. Located near the Mahaweli River. It is located 5.5km west of Kandy, off the Colombo- Kandy main road. peradeniya receives an annual rainfall of 200 days out of 365 days of the year.
The landscaping for a botanical garden was done in 1821 by Alexander Mung. In 1912 its ownership passed to the Department of Agriculture. Ancient plants can be seen here and the first tea plant in Sri Lanka was planted in this garden.
The English built this park to spend their leisure time freely. The garden is famous for its orchid species. There are more than 4000 plant species. About 2 million foreign tourists visit here annually.
