King Parakramabahu i.

King Parakramabahu i. or Parakramabahu the Great, ruled Sri Lanka from his throne in plonnaruwa. during what was known as Sri Lanka's golden era, economically, due to the unparalleled prosperity that he brought to the country.
He was the son of Manabharana, the ruler of Dakkhinadesa and was instructed by chosen teachers in language and literature, religion, statecraft the bearing of arms, sport dance and music. It is said that he was visibly ambitious even at the early age of 14 or 15,and would go on to develop the agricultural resources of his territory by putting in place a number of irrigation projects.
Trade was established with foreign countries during his rule and precious stones were exported. He is famously quoted for saying "not even a drop of water that comes from the rain must flow into the ocean without being made useful to man".
